No bigger than a thumb, Sand Crabs spend most of their time buried in shifting sand. Well camouflaged by their gray shell, they keep their balance in the ever-moving sand with the help of a heavily armored, curved body and pointy legs. While most crabs move in any direction—forward, backward and sideways— sand crabs move only backward. Finally, a unique feature is that they have no claws on their first pair of legs like other crabs.
